With very limited information available online giving way to some speculation and confusion, what is happening with the introduction of visas to visit South Georgia Island?

South Georgia is so steeped in the history of exploration and the remarkable human spirit that there is always a tendency to add drama and poetic phrases when describing it as a destination.

Adrift in the vast Southern Ocean, more than 900 miles from its nearest human settlement in the Falkland Islands, it is one of the most remote places on Earth and lives up to its fabled reputation as a wildlife mecca. Harsh, windswept, and otherworldly in its isolation, the island is a sanctuary on an epic scale—home to tens of thousands of king penguins, fur seals, elephant seals and albatrosses that dominate its rugged shores—a paradise for so many travel seekers that may, until recently, have never heard of it.
