Española

Geography

Characterised by flat, rocky terrain, beautiful beaches, and cliffs, Española offers some of the most diverse wildlife viewing in the region.

Significance

The oldest and most southerly of the islands, Española is the only breeding site for the world's entire population of waved albatrosses, which nest here and rear their young from April to December.

Attractions

Key sites include Gardner Bay for snorkelling and its beach, and Punta Suarez for its dramatic cliffs and unique species of bird and animal life, including the Galapagos hawk, Española mockingbird, and marine iguanas.

Activities

Viewing the waved albatross and their nesting sites is a highlight.
