Santa Rosalía

Geography

The city of Santa Rosalía is located on the eastern coast of Baja California Sur, along the Sea of Cortez.

Significance

Known for its distinctive French architectural influence, Santa Rosalía was historically significant due to its copper mining operations, particularly by the French company El Boleo, which began mining the region in the late 19th century. These days it is popular for its well-preserved historical sites, including the metal church, "Iglesia de Santa Bárbara," which is said to have been designed by Gustave Eiffel.

Attractions

Santa Rosalía has a rich mining history, which is reflected in its architecture and the historic El Boleo copper mine. The French influence is visible in the Santa Bárbara church, rumoured to have been designed by Gustave Eiffel, and in the town's bakery traditions.

Activities

Touring the mine, visiting the museum, and sampling local French-Mexican pastries are must-do activities.
