Geography

Located at the head of a deep fjord in Prince William Sound, Valdez is surrounded by glaciers and waterfalls.

Significance

Historically, Valdez has played a vital role in the Alaskan oil industry and was also one of the most badly affected cities during the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake.

The Columbia Glacier, Keystone Canyon, and Worthington Glacier. The Valdez Museum and Historical Archive is a central repository for showcasing the port’s history and culture.

Activities

Glacier tours, kayaking, fishing and hiking. Skiing and snowboarding are also popular thanks to the heavy snowfall in the region.
