South Plaza Island

Geography

A small flat island close to Santa Cruz, known for its cliffs on one side and a gentle slope leading to the ocean on the other.

Significance

Despite its small size, South Plaza is one of the most concentrated biodiversity sites in the Galapagos. It's renowned for its extraordinary flora, including vibrant sesuvium plants, and large populations of land iguanas.

Attractions

The island offers excellent opportunities to observe land iguanas, sea lion colonies, and numerous seabirds including tropicbirds and swallow-tailed gulls.

Activities

The hike through a cactus forest provides stunning views of the surrounding waters and the rugged coastline.
