Isabela

Geography

Formed by the merging of six shield volcanoes, Isabela is the only Galapagos island to cross the equator.

Significance

The largest island in the Galapagos, Isabela is shaped like a seahorse and is known for its diverse ecosystems, including volcanoes, wetlands, and a rich variety of wildlife.

Attractions

Key sites include the Sierra Negra volcano which is one of the largest calderas in the world and ideal for hiking; snorkelling a series of underwater lava-formed arches known as Los Tuneles; and visiting the historic Wall of Tears.

Activities

The island is great for spotting penguins, marine iguanas, and giant tortoises.
