Godthul

Geography

A secluded inlet located on the eastern coast of South Georgia, Godthul features a rugged landscape with steep hills, a pebble beach, and a backdrop of cascading waterfalls.


Significance

Meaning "Good Hollow," Godthul once served as a minor whaling and sealing site in the early 20th century and is now a testament to the island's history and a focus for conservation efforts.

Renowned for its populations of fur seals and gentoo penguins, as well as a variety of seabirds, the bay regularly provides a vibrant display of wildlife in a relatively undisturbed environment.
