When is the best time to visit Antarctica?

There is no single best month. Early season brings pristine snow and nesting behaviour. High summer delivers very long days. Later summer increasingly belongs to the whales.

November to December

Ice & pristine snow

Deep snow, nesting penguins, dramatic ice and the sense of a continent only just opening for summer.

January

Peak Antarctic summer

Long daylight, growing chicks and excellent flexibility for exploration as more waterways open.

February to March

Whales & softer light

03 · How to arrive

Should you sail the Drake Passage or fly to Antarctica?

How you reach Antarctica is one of the first major choices you will make. For some travellers, crossing the Drake is an essential part of the story. For others, flying makes more sense.

Sail the Drake

Sail from Ushuaia through the Drake Passage and onwards to Antarctica. Watch for albatrosses, meet the expedition team and feel the anticipation build as the first icebergs appear.

Fly the Drake

Fly from Punta Arenas to King George Island. Avoid most of the sea crossing and put more of a shorter itinerary into Antarctica itself.
