Icebird

Antarctica takes on a different scale aboard Icebird. With just six guests on extended voyages, this expedition yacht offers a personal way to explore the Peninsula, reaching sheltered anchorages and narrow channels along the coast. Available through Terra Nova Expeditions, she combines sailing, time ashore and the companionship of a small group. About the Ship

Designed by Van de Stadt and constructed at the Trintella Shipyard in the Netherlands, Icebird was purpose-built for polar exploration. Her ice-reinforced aluminium hull incorporates six watertight compartments, while her distinctive AeroRig uses a rotating carbon spar and fixed boom to simplify sail handling.

A Warm Retreat

The heated, double-glazed pilothouse saloon provides panoramic views and a sheltered place to watch the changing landscape. Insulation, central heating and heated bathroom towel rails bring practical comfort to life in Antarctic waters.

Life with Six Guests

Sharing a yacht creates a close travelling community. Meals and evenings aboard become opportunities to compare photographs, discuss encounters and get to know your fellow explorers. Space is necessarily compact, with the emphasis on the expedition and the places outside.

Cabin 3 Icebird

Terra Nova offers private double and shared accommodation aboard Icebird within its combination expedition. The private option includes a double bed and en-suite bathroom. Shared accommodation provides berths for solo travellers or a double bed for guests travelling together, within a four-person cabin with its own bathroom.

Two Ways to Experience Icebird

Selected Terra Nova Adventurer departures offer an Icebird day sail. For a longer experience, the Ultimate Antarctic Adventure combines exploration aboard Adventurer with a multi-night yacht expedition, before guests rejoin the ship for the return journey. This pairing combines an expedition ship’s facilities with the flexibility of Antarctic sailing.
