Grand Nanook 6280

Originally built in Denmark in 1968 for North Sea traffic control operations, Grand Nanook was designed to withstand some of the world's toughest seas. Today, following an extensive restoration completed in 2024 under the direction of polar explorer Christian Kempf and architect Marco Coppola, she has been transformed into an elegant boutique expedition vessel. Carrying a maximum of just 12 guests, Grand Nanook combines an intimate onboard atmosphere with serious expedition capability. Her 1B ice-class hull, two expedition Zodiacs and experienced polar guides allow guests to explore remote Arctic coastlines, glaciers and sea ice with exceptional flexibility. Redesigned cabins and a panoramic observation lounge complete a ship that perfectly reflects the Grands Espaces philosophy: small groups, expert guidance and immersive polar exploration, where the destination always comes before the ship.

Comfortable Accommodation

Grand Nanook accommodates just 12 guests in nine cabins, creating one of the most intimate expedition experiences available in the Arctic. Cabins range from 8 to 16 square metres and are configured with either twin or double beds. Each features a private bathroom with shower and WC, a desk, comfortable seating and practical storage, providing a welcoming retreat after a day exploring ashore.

Polar Exploration

Purpose-built for Arctic exploration, Grand Nanook combines proven expedition capability with the intimacy of a small expedition yacht. Her robust 1B ice-class hull and two Zodiac landing craft allow guests to reach remote coastlines, navigate among sea ice and enjoy flexible landings that are simply not possible for larger expedition ships.

Carrying a maximum of just 12 guests, Grand Nanook explores destinations including Greenland, Svalbard and other remote corners of the European Arctic. Towering glaciers, drifting pack ice, abundant wildlife and isolated wilderness are all experienced at a slower pace, with the freedom to adapt each voyage to the conditions and opportunities of the day.

Blending classic expedition heritage with the comfort of a beautifully restored yacht, Grand Nanook delivers a highly personal Arctic experience where time ashore, expert guiding and genuine exploration take centre stage.

Private Charter

Due to the Grand Nanook's size, she is the perfect choice for private charters in the Arctic and Norway, ideal for special-interest groups.

BUFFET NANOOK @VALENTIN PILATE

While dining is intentionally informal to suit the expedition style of travel, meals are an important part of life on board. Guests return from Zodiac excursions and shore landings to freshly prepared cuisine served in a relaxed setting, with opportunities to discuss the day's discoveries with fellow travellers, expedition guides and crew. The intimate size of the vessel creates a friendly, communal atmosphere where dining becomes an extension of the expedition experience rather than simply a meal.

Public Areas

As part of the extensive four-year refurbishment, the ship's interior was completely reimagined. Designed to maximise views of the Arctic's dramatic landscapes and wildlife, it provides a comfortable space to relax, attend expedition briefings or simply watch the ever-changing polar scenery unfold. Combined with the ship's compact size and classic yacht atmosphere, public spaces feel personal and uncrowded throughout the voyage.
