San Cristobal

Geography

Located in the easternmost part of the archipelago, it boasts varied ecosystems, including highlands, dry tropical forests, and beaches.

Significance

As one of the oldest islands, San Cristobal has a rich biodiversity and history, including being one of the first islands Charles Darwin visited. It serves as the administrative capital of the Galapagos.

Attractions

The island is home to the Galapagos National Park Visitor Centre, offering insights into the islands' natural history. Notable sites include Kicker Rock (León Dormido), a striking volcanic formation; Puerto Chino Beach; and El Junco Lagoon, the only freshwater lake in the archipelago.

Activities

It’s excellent for snorkelling, diving, and observing frigatebirds, sea lions, and Galapagos tortoises.
