14-Night Arctic Four Islands Aurora on the Seaventure

Begin your journey with a flight from Copenhagen to Longyearbyen, the gateway to the high Arctic. Sail to Ny-Ålesund in Svalbard, one of the northernmost settlements in the world, before venturing to the remote volcanic island of Jan Mayen. Explore Greenland’s spectacular east coast, with stops at the majestic Kaiser Franz Joseph and Kong Oscar Fjords, the isolated community of Ittoqqortoormiit, and the expansive Scoresby Sund, the world’s largest fjord system. Conclude your extraordinary Arctic voyage in Reykjavík, filled with unforgettable memories of rugged coastlines, icy fjords, and untouched northern beauty.

Map & Cruise Itinerary

Upon arrival in Copenhagen, you will be picked up at your hotel and allowed to rest for a while, or start exploring this fairytale city full of Nordic charm.

Stroll along the harbour, admire the colourful houses reflected in the water, savour a fresh seafood feast, or sit down in a riverside cafe and enjoy a quiet moment. Copenhagen blends rich history with modern vitality, making it a unique starting point for your journey.

Today, we will take a chartered flight from Copenhagen, at 55.6 degrees north latitude, to Longyearbyen, at 78 degrees north latitude. Longyearbyen is one of the world's northernmost inhabited towns. Located on Spitsbergen, the main island of the Svalbard archipelago, it is a key base for Arctic environmental research.

You'll have the opportunity to explore this unique border town before boarding your ship in the afternoon. During the summer months, Longyearbyen truly is a city where the sun never sets. The world-renowned Global Seed Bank is also located here, making it a worthwhile stop.

In the afternoon, the bus will take you to the pier to board the Poseidon and begin your exciting journey.

Once a mining town on the Svalbard Archipelago, Ny-Ålesund is the gateway to the Arctic. It served as the starting point for many renowned explorers. A global magnet for researchers, Ny-Ålesund boasts numerous international research stations specialising in glaciology, wildlife, and climate change. Approximately 14,000 researchers visit the town annually, and several countries have established Arctic research stations there. Our country's Yellow River Station is located here. Don't miss the museum and the famous post office, considered the northernmost in the world!

Over the next two days, we'll sail north, exploring the wondrous region between the ice cap and the ocean. Here, the waters are filled with drifting ice and drifting sea ice, a haven for wildlife. On board, we'll have excellent opportunities to observe wildlife, especially seals and walruses basking in the sun on the shimmering ice.

Known as the Kingdom of Polar Bears, the Svalbard Archipelago is home to over 3,000 polar bears. They rely primarily on sea ice to hunt seals, making this an ideal feeding ground. Experienced expedition members will be on the lookout for polar bears, and we're likely to spot them walking, hunting, or resting near the ice edge.

If conditions permit, we will take a Zodiac boat to admire the spectacular icebergs among the ice floes or observe wildlife up close.

At Sea

After sailing for hundreds of nautical miles, a tiny, isolated island slowly rises from the horizon. This is Jan Mayen Island, nestled in the heart of the Arctic Ocean, surrounded by vast waves. With only a few hundred visitors annually, it's known as the world's loneliest island. Weather permitting, we'll board a Zodiac and, under the guidance of our expedition team, land on this mysterious land.

The air on the island is filled with perennial smog, creating a feeling of being transported to another planet. Black lava beaches, red soils of iron oxide, and thousands of seagulls inhabit the cliffs.

On Jan Mayen Island, every landscape tells a story of nature, waiting to be explored and experienced firsthand. This is an isolated journey that is worth experiencing for every explorer.

At Sea

Here, you'll witness the largest glaciers in northeast Greenland. These glaciers extend like icebergs from the inland ice sheet to the ocean. Active glacial activity continuously calves the glaciers, creating vast floating icebergs and massive icebergs, some of which reach tens of metres in height, making them the glacial giants of the region. Expedition members will use zodiac boats to get up close and personal with these majestic icebergs, traversing the waters littered with floating and broken ice. You can even pick up a small piece of ice and feel its pure coldness firsthand.

Entering King Oscar Fjord, you'll be greeted by a majestic mountain range displaying a rich tapestry of geological layers and colours. The rock formations, tinged with red, orange, yellow, and green, are a vibrant hue, reminiscent of the surface of Mars. This stunning geology is one of East Greenland's most breathtaking wonders. While sailing or cruising the fjord, you'll marvel at the sheer, multicolored peaks and the volcanic glaciers that drift along its banks, resembling masterpieces of nature.

Along the fjord coast or on the mountain slopes, you can sometimes see musk deer and muskoxen leisurely foraging. This area is also home to Arctic birds such as snowy owls, terns, and snowy petrels. The best way to explore this fjord is by zodiac or kayak. Weather permitting, a hike through the Seven Colored Mountains offers panoramic views of the magnificent fjord and allows you to truly appreciate the pristine beauty of the Arctic wilderness.

Today, we'll board a Zodiac to visit Ittoqqortoormit, Greenland's most remote town. This small town, nestled near Scoresby Sund, boasts fewer than 500 residents, yet it retains a rich heritage of Inuit culture. Its residents maintain a close connection to nature, relying heavily on hunting and fishing. Hunting seals, polar bears, and whales is a crucial part of their livelihood and a vital part of their cultural heritage.

The town also boasts a church, museum, and several handicraft shops showcasing local history and artisanship. Furthermore, the town is home to a large number of Greenlandic sled dogs, these sturdy beasts essential companions for winter travel. The town's mystique and isolation make it a dream destination for nature enthusiasts and polar explorers.

Located in eastern Greenland, Scoresbysund Fjord is one of the world's largest fjord systems, renowned for its spectacular glaciers and icebergs. The floating icebergs, sometimes tens of meters tall, appear a captivating blue and white in the sunlight, while meltwater waterfalls add to the fjord's unique charm.

The region boasts a complex geology, with steep mountain ranges interwoven with glaciers and perpetually covered in snow and ice. Surrounding mountains reach up to 2,000 meters high, and millions of years of rock deposition have shaped this magnificent polar landscape. Even in September, the tundra remains vibrant, with mosses, ground cloth, and dwarf shrubs blooming, attracting wildlife such as Arctic foxes, Arctic hares, musk deer, and muskoxen.

During your expedition, you'll board a Zodiac and admire the massive icebergs and floating icebergs. Weather permitting, your team will explore the diverse fjords, experiencing the vibrant beauty of the brief warm season and perhaps even encountering Arctic wildlife.

At Sea

We will end our trip in Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital, to say goodbye to our expedition members and other companions.

Although Reykjavik is not a large city, it is one of the happiest cities in the world. It has houses as colourful as candy, the sea is at the end of the city, and the scenery is everywhere. It is like a dream city in fairy tales.
