About the Wilson's Storm Petrel

Wilson's Storm Petrels are one of the smallest seabirds in the world, with dark brown plumage and a distinctive white rump. They have long legs that extend past their tail in flight.

Extremely common, with a global population in the tens of millions, Wilson’s Storm Petrels are often seen flitting over the waves in large flocks.

Despite their numbers, they are at risk from pollution and climate changes affecting their oceanic food web.

Warming ocean temperatures and shifting currents can alter the distribution of their planktonic food sources.
