The Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti) is a medium-sized penguin species native to the coasts of Chile and Peru. Named after the Humboldt Current, a cold-water current in the Pacific Ocean, these penguins have adapted to life in temperate coastal environments.

Humboldt penguins have a black head with a white border running from behind the eye, around the black ear covers and chin, and joining at the throat. They have a blackish-grey back and a white belly with a distinctive black band across the chest.

They nest on islands and rocky coastlines, often in caves or crevices, to protect themselves from predators and extreme weather.
