Geography

St. Kilda is a remote archipelago located about 64 kilometres (40 miles) west-northwest of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Known for its dramatic landscapes and harsh weather, St. Kilda is both geographically and culturally unique.

St. Kilda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its natural and cultural significance. It is recognised for its unique ecosystem, significant seabird populations, and well-preserved archaeological sites, including remnants of the historic village on Hirta.

St. Kilda is a haven for seabirds and is one of Europe’s most important breeding sites. Thousands of puffins, gannets, fulmars, and kittiwakes nest here each year.
