Harwich

Geography

Located in Essex on the northeast coast of England, Harwich is a historic town and port that sits at the confluence of the Stour and Orwell rivers, leading into the North Sea.

Significance

Harwich has a rich maritime history, notably as the departure point for the Mayflower in 1620. It remains an important operational hub for ferries to the Netherlands and Scandinavia.

Attractions

The Harwich Maritime Museum, located in a historic lighthouse, the Electric Palace Cinema, one of the oldest purpose-built cinemas in Britain, and the Ha'penny Pier, offering insights into the town's naval history.
