Dover

The port of Dover has been around since Roman times and has a rich heritage. Its iconic chalk cliffs lend their name to Kent's "White Cliffs Country" moniker, and as the second busiest cruise port in the UK, Dover welcomes millions of visitors each year.

Atop the cliffs sits the town’s iconic castle, with over 2,000 years of history waiting to be explored. Dover Museum houses the world's oldest surviving sea-going vessel, the 3000-year-old Bronze Age Boat, in a gallery close to where it was discovered.

The town’s cliffs, which are a welcome sight for today's cross-channel travellers, also served as the control centre for WW2's Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. The castle also houses the Secret Wartime Tunnels and dotted around the town are other historic sites such as the Drop Redoubt and Grand Shaft.
