San Ignacio

Geography

San Ignacio is a small oasis town located in the central part of Baja California Sur.

Significance

Known for its lush date palm groves and the 18th-century Misión San Ignacio de Loyola, the town is close to the freshwater San Ignacio Lagoon, which is an important grey whale breeding ground. The mission is of significant historical and cultural interest, reflecting the region's Spanish colonial past.

Attractions

The town's centrepiece, the Misión San Ignacio, is a beautifully preserved Spanish mission founded in the 18th century.

Activities

Visitors can explore the historic mission, relax in the tranquillity of the oasis, and take excursions to San Ignacio Lagoon for some whale-watching. The area is also very popular for bird-watching and kayaking.
