Shag Rocks

Geography

Situated 150 miles west of South Georgia, Shag Rocks consists of six jagged, volcanic rocks jutting out of the Atlantic Ocean, which serve as a remote outpost for marine life.

Significance

The rocks are an important feeding ground for birds and marine life, making them a key location for studying the migratory patterns and behaviours of species such as the shag, from which the rocks derive their name.

Attractions

The area is a magnet for a diversity of marine life, including various species of seabirds and a multitude of marine creatures attracted by the rich underwater kelp forests.

Activities

Bird watching and marine wildlife spotting are extremely popular activities here, with opportunities for deep-water fishing and photography of the unique geological formations and the wildlife they support.
