Geography

Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is situated on the southeastern coast of South America, facing the Río de la Plata. The city is characterised by European architecture, wide boulevards and green spaces, reflecting a rich cultural heritage and vibrant urban life.

Significance

Known as the "Paris of South America," Buenos Aires is the cultural soul of Argentina, famed for the tango, literature and the arts. The city's neighbourhoods all have their own distinct flavours, telling the story of the city's diverse immigrant heritage and its role as a cultural melting pot.

Attractions

Iconic landmarks include the Teatro Colón, one of the world's premier opera houses; the historic neighbourhood of San Telmo; and La Boca, which is known for its colourful “little alley”, Caminito, and its passion for soccer, while the Recoleta Cemetery is filled with historic Argentinian figures.

Activities

Experience a tango show in the city that gave birth to the dance; savour Argentinian steak accompanied by some Malbec wine in a traditional parrilla; explore the city's rich literary history in its many bookstores and cafes. Football matches, particularly in the Bombonera Stadium, are always filled with Argentinian passion.
